Coaching Resources

NEW --Pitchers:The number of pitches is far more important than the innings pitched. This document produced by the ASMI offers some good guidance on how much kids should be pitching. Click Here for full document. Little League international also hosted an online chat with Dr. Glenn Fleisig. (click here for that document). The pitch count will be used in the Major and Minor Boys baseball divisions. Little League International has given their rules on how the pitch count should be instituted, including question and answers and comments from Yankee Mike Mussina-- also Q&A click here.

Clinic: Friday March 23rd at 7:00 pm at Frozen Ropes, please RSVP by March 21st by calling Frozen Ropes 469-9507or emailing chester@frozenropes.com. Admission is free.

A sampling of the topics Frozen Ropes will present:
v Common problems and solutions in hitting and throwing.
v Improving practice time and game enjoyment for you and your players.
v IF and OF play made simple.
v Arm injury prevention and throwing velocity strategies.
v Age appropriate strength and conditioning for your team.

Handouts and access to instructional videos will also be made available to coaches attending. The Frozen Ropes League Video library (located on the national website at www.frozenropes.com) access code will be given to all coaches who attend the clinic. This provides coaches with additional drills and instructional video clips on baseball and softball instruction and practice organization tips.

Equipment:, Handout of equipment TBD. Additionally during the year any equipment broken can be exchanged, and additional baseballs given also. Equipment is a major expense of GLL, thus it is your responsibility to ensure that the kids are not mistreating the equipment, fields etc. Too often what were brand new catchers equipment is returned looking like it went through a world war.

Uniforms: Additional Pants are available for exchange. Managers should make arrangements with their Division Supervisor.

Work Bonds The work bond program is essential to allowing little league exist as a volunteer program. The intention of work bonds are to ensure sufficient resources are available to cover the many aspects of a season. The concession stand is run to provide a service to the families, knowing that many nights are spent at the fields. Without parent volunteers to assist in running the concession this would not be possible.

Safety This should be a priority during games as well as practices. Bat racks are provided at all of the fields. There is no "on-deck" circle in Goshen Little League. That means that no one other than the batter should have a bat in his/her hands. Children should be placed in positions on the field where they can protect themselves.

Schedule /Rainouts: Cancelling of games due to weather is sole responsibiltiy of Goshen Little league board, with the exception of an umpire during the coarse of a game. Resheduling of games will also be through the GLL board.

Umpires: GLL relies largely on youth umpires to handle the umpiring duties of our games. They are not professional umpires and shall not be treated as such. Verbal abuse will not be tolerated from anyone attending a GLL game. Any concerns with the umpiring should be address to the Umpire in Chief, Joe Cosgrove. Adult volunteers are needed.

Conduct:This is little league and conduct of everyone involved should reflect that. Words of encouragement for both teams should be the only sounds heard at a GLL baseball game. Verbal abuse of the umpires, coaches, parents, or players by anyone is unwarranted and will result in action by the GLL Board of Directors.
